![]() It was incredibly fast paced and wild shoot that was an adrenaline fuelled adventure from day one. Jesse leads a cattle rustling gang called the Seven Rivers Gang so we spent many days galloping across Canada’s prairies and stampeding long horned cattle, trying my best to stay in the saddle. Too many things went into this experience that made it very enjoyable to do… One thing that was particularly fun though was the cattle rustling sequences. My favourite aspect is hard to nail down because I love so much about it, the characters, the story, the setting, the writing, the action sequences, the people involved. It was one of those rare auditions that everything flows effortlessly and Michael Hirst (Vikings) and a Donald Deline our writer and producer responded to it! I became involved through the audition process, my agents in Hollywood thought Jesse Evans could be an incredible fit so sent it across and on a very busy week I managed to squeeze in the time to put myself on tape for it – for some reason it was absolutely clear to me how I wanted to bring him to life. How did you become involved in Billy the Kid and what’s been your favourite aspect of this show? Well to be honest none of them really seem like the best of company, however I would definitely sit for a beer with Lee Harvey Oswald so I can ask him what actually happened in ‘63…and I’ll also go Jesse Evans because you know you would be in for one hell of a night – but there’s always the risk he’d leave without paying! If you could pick two characters you’ve played to have a drink at a bar with, who would they be and why? I am very excited that we can all get out and celebrate cinema again, sharing the communal experience of going to see a see a story told on the big screen and sharing that journey together. Welcome to Impulse Gamer Daniel! The world is travelling again! What are you most excited about Supanova? It was funny little nuances, a lot of twang, expression.By Andrew Bistak DANIEL WEBBER INTERVIEW Gamer chats with Daniel Webber who stars in EPIX’s all new series by Michael Hirst (Vikings, Elizabeth), Billy the Kid, as Jesse Evans, leader of the Seven Rivers gang. From him being in an interivew to him being with friends playing around, him doing Shakespeare, him with the press scrum, all sound like three completely different men. I had about five different recordings of his voice, and each one of them sounds like a different human being. I probably spent about two hours a day going through different monologues, speeches, things that I though he’d say, or had said. The voice and the physicality were the two most important aspects for me to get. I spent a lot of time in a hotel room, trying different things. ![]() Seeing as how there’s not much video of Lee, how did you decide on the physicality and sound of the role? I was so involved with telling our story, and to do that I couldn’t look at those judgement of him. It’s actually interesting hearing questions like this, because it was never something I was concerned or aware of. If I go into it with the mindset of being a hated man, or a villain, I’d never be able to play that man. I think the job of an actor is to try and understand that character personally. He never wavered from that, even when life was clearly pointing in the opposite direction. And Lee’s childhood was sort of this bottomless pit of unfulfillment, which led to this desire to be great, this belief that he is great. He’s got all of the same traits that she had, only heightened–she was grandiose, she was controlling. I realized he ends up being a projection of his mother. I think one of the things that I realized early on that I wanted to do was understand his childhood, and him from an earlier age. Just learning about him, and learning a lot about his mother. How Lee got involved, and what all his aspirations and dreams were, what he was trying to achieve. Khrushchev and Kennedy, and all these big players and where Lee was placed in among all of that. ![]() But then aside from that I looked into the political context of the 60s, the forces that were at play, and the Cold War. ![]() Originally I started with Stephen King’s book. What kind of things did you research? What kind of conclusions did you come to? ![]()
